who knew? i didn't.

i had no idea that you had to register your microchip!
silly me, i thought when someone scanned the chip, your dog's info was displayed/given.

after talking to my friend lori about blogs, she was talking about this local blog called "the cat dish" ---written by catherine toth, who also writes for the staradvertiser. lori actually was talking about all of the food posts, but i went straight for the section about her pets, which was where i stumbled upon this post: Lost Dog: what i learned (go read it!!!)

in a nutshell, if you don't register your microchip, it's pretty much useless. {i don't know about you, but when you get your dog microchipped, there should be more information about it.}
so i researched the brand of chip that ollie has...AVID. their pamphlets say that if we don't enroll in their registration program thingamabob, all the information someone will get is the name of the vet that implated the chip. If you enroll, all your information should come up immediately.

you bet i immediately enrolled!

i also printed out the form to register his number at the humane society. here's the section on "pet identification"

i had no idea....
just thought i'd post this in case others were clueless like myself. :/

T-W-O

it's ollie's second birthday. has it really been 2 years?!?! ollie is currently experiencing a birthday hangover...his morning started out in his finest duds...

but he hated it, so it came off after i snapped a few pictures. i think the long tuxedo tails bother him. maybe i should shorten them, so he can wear it more. it's his only designer-doggy gear, he should make the most of it!

of course there were gifts:

gift #1: a new toy! (unpictured)

gift #2: terrabone dental chew. he ate the whole thing in under 45 minutes. i tried to take it away from him to save half, but he cried and cried looking for it. i'm not too sure how well it freshens breath...it made it smell like my mom's vitamins. strange. i really wanted to try the zukes mini bones, but i couldn't find it.

he also got new treats from my mom. i also got him some peanut butter cups and mini pup-cake from cocojor. after all those treats, ollie was POOPED.

after his nap, he went to my mom's house (i had to go to the dentist...oh joy) where he had a ball looking out the window and running around. he saw his favorite dog pass by the house (twice)...there's just something about that fluffy white dog....he ate even MORE treats! he seriously had to open and taste test each bag.

{quick notes about the above treats: the barksters were the clear favorite of the bunch. and the salmon sushi rolls...SO STINK! i don't know what i thought they'd be like...maybe little salmon flavored treats that looked like sushi? but they were just dehydrated salmon pieces rolled to look like sushi. the "nori" was actually the salmon skin. the skin was SO HARD that ollie couldn't even eat it. we had to resort to smashing the pieces with a hammer, and taking the skin off. maybe this is a better treat for bigger dogs with stronger chompers...and kind of funny, you know how dogs like to roll around in patches of grass where it smells? well ollie tossed the sushi treat on the ground and started rolling all over it! so funny...and gross.}

then it was off to his other grandparents, where he was treated to new toys (unpictured: loofah dog & mini dolphin toy) and in lieu of cake, he got his favorite "people food", Ani's Sweet Bread.

a little note from ollie:

thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes, presents, and love. i had the best birthday ever! i love everybody!

love, ollie pollie.

behind the blinds part 2

ollie just loves sitting in the sun.
we normally keep the blinds in our room up halfway so he can sit and look out the window. but lately, we've kept it all the way down because he's become a barking TERROR. we thought if we could lessen him seeing the dogs on the street, it would lessen his barking.

but this small fry figured out how to squeeze himself behind the blinds:

have a great weekend! i'm sure ollie will be in that spot for most of his!

something to think about...

i was perusing some dog-blogs today and stumbled upon the "10 Pet Commandments" that, i THINK originated from this guy: ©Stan Rawlinson (The Original Doglistener).

the one i found on the other blog is slightly different, but still, basically the same. i think they just omitted some things, making it more touching.

the 10 pet commandments:

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

ollie missed his dad...

in our apartment, we have a security door that only allows residents on that particular floor access it...the door is pretty loud and we can hear it every time it opens and shuts (annoying, i know) i personally can't tell when it's nolan that opens that security door until he's actually using the keys to come into our apartment. somehow ollie knows when it's nolan from the moment the security door opens. if it's not nolan he doesn't even flinch and goes about his business. if it is nolan, ollie will stop everything and go sit at the edge of the couch and face the door waiting for him to come in the apartment.

BUT

when nolan goes on trips, ollie becomes hyper-aware of the security door and will check to see if, just maybe, it's his dad. well, nolan went to vegas last week and on the first day ollie waited for him, and waited...and waited...

luckily, he got over it and was fine the rest of the days nolan was gone.

THEN...

when we went to pick nolan up from the airport, little did we know that before we arrived curbside at baggage claim, nolan had pet his friend's dog who had also gone to pick up his traveling dad. so when we got there, ollie saw nolan through the window and got SUPER excited. when nolan got in the car, i passed ollie to him, who was still super excited. that is...until he started sniffing his arms and hands. then he got upset and proceeded to act very aloof, "hmph! i don't care you're here dad...you traitor!" and stared out the window.

but all was forgiven by the next day. good thing ollie doesn't hold a grudge. lol.
