oh, ollie

Happy Memorial Day!

This was a busy weekend for ollie pollie.....a naughty one too. But let's start with the busy part first.

Saturday Ollie went to watch chasey's flag football game. He had a blast running around, chasing birds, watching the game, and letting the little kiddies pet him.

then he went to visit his great grandma...he always brings big smiles to her face, and he showered her with his kisses. :)

and he had a sleepover at grandma & grandpa hee's house, where he woke up to bark like a mad-dog at 2:30am....there's just something about their neighbor's dog that gets ollie all riled up!

Then on Sunday ollie went to the dog park for all of 15 minutes...there were no dogs there to play with, and ollie realized he can squeeze himself through the entrance gate. thank god it's double gated. i always knew he could probably squeeze himself through but i hoped he never would figure it out. he did. great. just great. this is a problem having a teeny tiny dog. they can fit through most barricades!

so then we took him to play with his girlfriend peanut. they were first playing on the grassy putting green at peanut's grandmas apartment, but it was an open area, and we thought ollie wouldn't stay in the grassy area, so we kept him on the leash, but peanut was off leash and it made their play time difficult with the leash constantly getting tangled as they wrestled and ran around. so we took them to the tennis courts to play in an enclosed area...

while they played, ollie kept going by this part of the fence that looked a lot like the section at the dog park where he got through. and pop! he popped himself through and took off! Nolan and I almost had a heart attack! Luckily we caught him not too far away. but lesson learned. ollie can never be off leash. i watch off leash dogs (like peanut) and i'm jealous that ollie can't have that kind of freedom. oh, ollie.

On Sunday we also visited the pet store, Calvin & Susie. I went there hoping to find a new dog food for ollie, as he is SUCH a picky eater. He doesn't scarf down his dog food like every other dog i know. he turns his nose up at it unless there's something yummy mixed in, like chicken or treats, or cream cheese. i really want to find something good for him, that he'll actually want to eat. He's been eating Royal Cannin Yorshire 28 but i read it's not THAT great for him because it contains a lot of corn and fillers....we tried Evo small bites, but he didn't care for that and i think he may have been allergic because he started scratching and licking his paws a lot...

So i told the ladies at C&S ollie's food-story, and i came away w/2 samples of dog food (one a raw food mix) and a small $5 bag of Orijen 6Fish to try. They said Ollie may just need variety. So far, he seems to not hate the Orijen.

Trying to find a good dog food is so difficult!!!

a birthday pawty!

this past weekend ollie went to his first real birthday pawty for his friend karlee. she turned 1 year old and her parents threw her a great pawty at their home :)

ollie was so excited, he was very well behaved during the car ride all the way out to the country!

big group shot of most of the dogs there! here's the birthday girl w/her small dog friends.

karlee saying hello to the newest addition, Buster Brown. Buster was a little scared of other dogs, as this was his first big doggie outing :)

dotchi & ollie

spunky monkey. he thinks he's human. he doesn't care much for dogs.

the party was great...treats for dogs, cake for dogs, food and cake for humans...
and a tv with the bulls game on for the doggie daddys!

Thank you laumadas!
we had a great time!

pet expo 2011

this past saturday we took ollie to the pet expo! it was our first experience, and we were extremely overwhelmed. i didn't think it would be THAT crowded (with both people and animals)....i spent most of my time making sure ollie wasn't stepped on...most of the smaller dogs were being carried or in dog-strollers...ollie wanted to be on the ground, sniffing butts with the rest of 'em.

{sorry, i have to start off w/a rant...please skip ahead if you don't wanna read me rant}

our day started off by getting scolded by some rabbit booth lady screaming at us to keep the dogs away from the rabbit, "for obvious reasons!!!" sheesh lady...don't gotta freak out. she ran up to us, scolding us like ollie was a vicious animal barking incessantly at the 20 pound rabbit...ollie just walked up there, not making a peep. you could just {you should!} ask nicely and politely. and in my opinion, i know it was a PET expo, not a DOG expo, but still, if you're going to freak out that a little, calm, and quiet, 4 pounder walked too close to the rabbit cage, when ollie was one of the smallest dogs there, you probably shouldn't bring them to an event where the main attendees are dogs! and you shouldn't put your booth in the front where every single dog is going to walk by, and you probably shouldn't put that huge rabbit on the outer edge of your booth...just sayin'.

she was probably just an overprotective rabbit-parent, but still. ASK NICELY.

...RANT OVER...
back to fun exp re-caps!

there were lots of fun booths, lots of clothes and toys and dog beds...
we didn't buy ollie anything :( i think if i want to actually check out the booths, i'm going to have to go without ollie. He had a ball sniffing buts and meeting other dogs...
and then he saw his girlfriend, peanut! Peanut was not having as much fun as ollie, so we decided to leave and let them play outside...
they both enjoyed that A LOT.

on our way back to the car, we ran into kris and petey!!!
they were on their way in to the expo.

ollie had a great time, i think next year i'll be more prepared and less shocked ;p
and hopefully get to buy something and score more samples!

here's a video of ollie and peanut...hopefully it works...

swimmy swimmy!

This past weekend's ollie-adventure was kind of a flop. We thought that maybe he would like to go swimming in a pool...but we don't have a pool that will allow dogs, so we went out and bought a little kiddie pool....

i think it was too cold (the water) and too overcast (the weather) for ollie...and not deep enough for him to actually swim.

after drinking a lot of the water he started playing with a little ball and easter egg. (he loves easter eggs!) he tried to pick up the egg as it sank to the bottom of the pool which resulted in him drinking a ton of water and choking. :( poor little guy.

he had more fun running around outside barking at the neighbor's dog.

oh well.
maybe we'll try this one more time on a hot day with warm water...

ollie on desire to inspire!

Ollie's picutre is featured on the blog, Desire to Inspire

Every Monday, they have a feature called, "pets on furniture" and i had the cutest pictures of ollie sleeping on the couch so i sent it in, and this week his pictures are up!!!

stay tuned for ollie's weekend kiddie pool adventure....

but for now, i'll leave you with ollie up at 5am in the morning to keep mom company as she got ready for the honolulu 5k! (i walked. don't get too excited ;p)
